Corinne's Assignment #3

1. Photograph a situation:

For my situation, I chose an outing we took to an uninhabited island in North Carolina called Shackleford Banks. The light was lovely and the kids were happy :) Here are my favorite three:

ISO 400 f10 1/2000 105mm

ISO 800 f16 1/1000 105mm

ISO 800 f6.3 1/4000 105mm

It's funny how my children aren't actually looking at me in any of these pictures. They were too involved in the adventure - maybe that's why I like these best, because for me, they truly reflect the experience.

2. Shadows

I didn't crop this one - it's on a waterfront walk

I was making sugar cookies in the early morning when I noticed that snappy shadow

3. Reflections

Preston had set up these blocks himself. I took pictures at first because I liked the long lines but after I looked at my first pictures, I noticed the reflections and started trying to make that part of the picture as well.

This isn't a particularly amazing picture - but for me, I love how I get both our Thanksgiving meal prep and how lovely the day was outside in one picture :)

Corinne's Assignment #2

#1. Take an object. Photograph it 12 times. Get creative and make each shot different! Use different angles and experiment with your composition.

I chose to photograph a little glass I bought at the thrift store. Because my table is nasty I used a red tablecloth to cover it and add some color, since the glass is transparent and I didn't iron it to add some texture. I set it up in my kitchen in the early morning when I was getting bright sunlight through my big window, like this:Here are the three I think I like best. These are un-cropped originals, I think in one of them I had to fiddle with the color a bit :)

#2. This assignment is about you and creating an storytelling image.
This was fun for me. I tried to think about the things that give me joy in my daily life and the things that define me in a secular way.

This one I fiddled with a tiny bit to brighten it and give it that slight black border. My mom gave me this statue for my birthday a couple years ago and I love having it on my bookself. Her open book is held close but she's aware of the world around her.

This one I didn't even set up - I was making my lunch while we were on a picnic in Ohio last month. I had my camera out just as I was going to eat it :) My husband harasses me about my love of peanut butter and jelly and Cheetos sandwhiches, but they make me so happy. I think this idea is like me in that I do things that are generally normal and good, but I also like to do them my own way :)

This last one is my way of illustrating my love of going and doing. I tried to do it with a suitcase too but I didn't like them - the keys got washed out and I decided I wanted the keys to be a part of my focus - since I spent so much time in the car. My kids and I have taken so many neat adventures in my van, it's how we get ourselves to our house of worship, our schools, our activities, our vacations. We share music in there together, listen to stories and sometimes it's the only time we actually spend all together in a day. It's how we get to Grandmom and Pop-Pop, Grandma and Grandpa, friends and cousins. And that green bag is like my lifeline - nearly the entire organization of my world can be in that bag at one time. I love it :) I slightly decreased the saturation in this one

Corinne's Assignment #1

Okay, well, only one of my indoor pictures was actually taken in my own personal home, but they are with windows - so I am assuming that counts :)

Window #1
Soft window light/Close to window/ Light and Shadow on face.

I spent a day at my mom's this week so I took advantage of having a non-wiggly model around :) It was so fun to look at her through the lens for a while. I took her picture while she sat at the dining room table - the table is surrounded by windows on two sides and she was sitting in front of the middle window of three floor to ceiling windows (I forgot to take a picture of that room while I was there :)

1/60 F2.5 ISO 100 50mm

Window #2
Small window/ small amount of light/ Can you make it work?As you can see, the only smallish window I have is in my front hall. I took this one of Sheely at about 7:15 in the morning, just before the light gets super orange. It was REALLY HARD to take a crisp picture. Next time I think I would up my ISO and use a bit larger F number to get more good pictures to choose from.

1/100 F1.8 ISO 400 50 mm
original
Window #3
Big window/create flat lighting (no shadows on your subject)

This first one I took in my living room in front of my sliding glass door - it was around one in the afternoon. It has a western exposure. I put a navy sheet in front of my coffee table and made him sit on it. It lasted for approximately 10 seconds so I am thrilled that I got this shot. He kept rolling himself up in the sheet :)

1/80 F1.8 ISO 200 50mm

This second picture I actually took at the church - on the Laurel ward's side at about 5pm. We're standing in the lobby and my back is to the doors.

1/100 F2 ISO 400 50mm

Outside
Move outside/ get your subject in the shade/ Look for catchlights in the eyes.

I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of the scene here either. I'm going to try to remember that next time. I was out in a field near a playground. There was a huge shed on the playground, making a big squarish shadow. I had Xavier stand just inside the shadow line - the sun was just beyond his eyes (the sun was shining right on my back as I took the picture) It took a while to find a position so he wasn't feeling super squinty.
